Exclusive invitation to the employer workshop at the University of Southampton

The University of Southampton will be hosting a Future Jobs Employer Workshop event on Friday 27 March, 10:00 - 13:30 and delivered by Universities UK (UUK) - the collective voice of 142 universities, working with the government and higher education sector to champion UK higher education.

UUK are holding a number of these events across the country to obtain employer feedback on the challenges employers are encountering on Skills, Innovation and Productivity.

The purpose of this event is to begin to imagine what a national, long-term higher education strategy that meets the needs of employers could look like.

UUK wrote:

"We believe that the UK is reaching a critical point. It needs to renew its fortunes. But it can only do that if business and the public sector are thriving, we have an enterprise economy, higher productivity and higher jobs creation. Universities have a crucial role to play here, delivering a skilled workforce and supporting the new ideas and developments that drive growth.

As universities, we know that to secure a bright future for the next generation, we must have a long-term national strategy that supports employers to access the skills and support they need to grow and succeed - into the 2030s and beyond."

Working with UUK, the University wishes to invite employers (across all sectors, large and small), business groups, local councils and other organisations to engage in this debate, share your thoughts and ideas on the skills needs you have and how universities and employers can work together to ensure students and the workforce are highly skilled.

The event will have the University of Southampton Vice Chancellor, Professor Mark E. Smith and senior staff from UUK in attendance.
