Eaton's Strategic Move to Daedalus Eaton will relocate from its long-standing base at Abbey Works in Fareham to a new, purpose-built 176,000 sq ft Grade A manufacturing facility at Faraday Business Park within Daedalus. This move follows Royal London Asset Management Property’s acquisition of the nine-acre Daedalus site from Fareham Borough Council, with Eaton securing a 20-year pre-let agreement .

Construction of the new facility began in July 2025 and it is expected to be ready for occupancy by September 2026 . The development is designed to meet the highest environmental standards, targeting BREEAM Outstanding and EPC A+ ratings , and will include modern manufacturing space, offices, and employee well-being features like a rooftop terrace.

Embedded Starter Generator : A revolutionary aspect is the plan to build an embedded starter generator directly into the engine core , removing the need for a bulky external gearbox and saving space, weight, and complexity. Early tests for this program, dubbed E2SG, began in 2014.
International Collaboration : Rolls-Royce is collaborating with Japan's IHI Corporation to develop and deliver a future fighter engine demonstrator, bringing together complementary British and Japanese technologies.
Demonstrator Engines : For the current crewed combat air demonstrator , which is undergoing manufacturing, two EJ200 engines (donated by the Ministry of Defence) are being prepared for installation. These engines, from the Eurofighter Typhoon, are for the prototype to test concepts and potential, and are not the actual engines being developed for the eventual operational aircraft . The advanced power and propulsion system is designed to enable the Tempest to maintain its stealth signature by managing heat and providing ample electricity for its sophisticated onboard electronics and potential high-energy weapons.

The demonstrator aircraft plays a pivotal and multi-faceted role in advancing the UK's future combat air strategies, both technologically and strategically. It is designed to de-risk the ambitious Tempest programme and validate key innovations before full production.

Here's how the demonstrator contributes:

Testing and Validating Cutting-Edge Technologies:

The demonstrator is a piloted supersonic aircraft specifically designed to test a wide range of new technologies , including stealth-compatible features and next-generation flight controls.
It will provide crucial data on aerodynamics, stealth coatings, engine performance, and avionics .
Innovations like additive manufacturing (3D printing) are being used to produce significant structural parts, demonstrating efficient and cost-effective production methods. This includes the recycling of parts from old Tornado aircraft, which are 3D printed into new components for the demonstrator's engine, showcasing potential for savings and reduced reliance on global supply chains.
It supports the development of future integrated sensing and non-kinetic effects (ISANKE) and integrated communication systems (ICS) architectures by integrating hardware, software, and enabling architectures onto a flying test-bed.
Digital weapon integration processes are being trialled with the demonstrator, aiming to reduce the time and cost associated with weapons integration.
Rolls-Royce is supplying EJ200 engines for the demonstrator, allowing for successful integration testing for power and propulsion.

De-Risking and Accelerating Development:

The demonstrator is "essential for de-risking future aircraft development" . This is a knowledge-based approach, aimed at ensuring that core technologies are sufficiently mature before proceeding with full-scale development, contrasting with issues seen in other major projects like the F-35.
It helps to "significantly reduce the time and cost involved in building future military jets" through the use of digital techniques such as model-based systems engineering, digital twins, 3D printing, cobotics, and immersive simulation.
Test pilots have already logged over 300 hours in high-fidelity simulators , providing vital insights for design and familiarization well ahead of the first physical flight. This allows for virtual testing to confirm models and potentially reduce the need for hundreds of costly physical test flights.
The rapid progress on the demonstrator contributes to the ambitious goal of an in-service date of 2035 , which is significantly shorter than previous combat air programmes.

Maintaining Sovereign Capability and Skills:

The demonstrator is a "vital initiative for developing national skills and advanced technology" , ensuring the UK remains a world leader in the design, production, test, and certification of combat aircraft.
It helps to "equip our people with the skills they will need to deliver GCAP" , fostering a new generation of engineers and technologists for the digitisation of the programme.
This project is the first crewed supersonic combat demonstrator developed in the UK in over 40 years , signifying a revival of the UK's industrial capability in combat aircraft.
By maintaining the UK's ability to design, build, and support advanced military aircraft, it reinforces the commitment to operational independence and reduces reliance on single partners, such as the United States.

Facilitating International Collaboration:

Farnborough MP Alex Baker visited Sigma, a key aerospace manufacturer in Hampshire.

The company is part of the Farnborough Aerospace Consortium and creates a range of components for civil and military sectors worldwide.

Ms Baker said: "I was delighted to be invited to visit Sigma by the Farnborough Aerospace Consortium and to have the opportunity to find out more about one of the many incredible and highly technical industries based in Farnborough. "It was a fascinating visit and another example of not only great careers on our doorstep but also a local business making a global impact."

This roundtable event is focused on how UK Aerospace and Defence suppliers can increase productivity and capacity to become more resilient and rate-capable through implementation of digital technology. NEWS - FAC Mission to Poland: Your Guide to Poland's Aerospace Industry

FAC & Aviation Valley Poland Collaboration Part 1

Poland has a long history in the aerospace industry, spanning over one hundred years of aviation history and more than eighty years in aerospace industry, aircraft production, and aviation personnel training. This development was strongly supported by its scientific, academic, and engineering environments. Although the industry faced a rapid decline after the end of the Cold War, it began to improve in the late 1990s due to economic transformation, expanding international cooperation, and direct foreign investments.

Polish Aerospace Sector Overview

The Polish aerospace industry is considered one of the most innovative sectors in the country's economy. It has a rich export offer of advanced aviation products, with almost every passenger aircraft in the world featuring at least one component produced in Poland.

Size and Scale:

A PAIH report from June 2023 states that the sector employed over 47,000 specialists in 2022. Another source mentions over 200 aviation and aviation-related companies with 33,000 employees. Yet another source indicates over 200 companies in the aviation and space industry combined, with over 18,000 jobs and annual sales up to 8.5 billion PLN.

Exports constitute a significant portion of the industry's output. According to U.S. Department of Commerce statistics, 90% of Poland's aerospace production was exported in 2018. In 2020, the export value was 0.8 billion EUR. Export values increased significantly between 2021 and 2023, reaching 5.17 billion EUR in 2023. Main export destinations include the USA, Ukraine, Russia, Italy, Saudi Arabia, and Canada.

Total Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) positions in the sector amounted to EUR 1.49 billion in 2020. Poland's favorable business environment, strategic location, and skilled workforce have attracted substantial foreign investment from countries like the United States and Germany.

Key Products and Activities: Poland is known for the production and servicing of light sport, passenger, agricultural, and training aircraft, as well as helicopters, gliders, and parts and accessories. The industry also involves the design and production of detail and assembly tooling, production of formed metal parts, CNC machined parts, and assembly of complex aerostructures. Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) is another branch of the industry. The production potential lies mainly in product quality, knowledge of materials processing, foundry, mechanics, and electronics.

Clusters: Much of the country's aerospace production is concentrated in clusters. The most prominent is the "Aviation Valley" (Dolina Lotnicza) , located in southeastern Poland, with its heart in Rzeszow. Established in 2003 with 18 companies, it grew to 158 entities from the region as of 2018/2019 and 177 entities from the region employing over 33,000 staff by 2020, concentrating 90% of the total sector output in Poland. As of 2023, the Aviation Valley Association has 194 members and 35,000 employees with sales of $3.5 billion. The long-term objective of the Aviation Valley Association is to transform southeastern Poland into one of Europe's leading aerospace regions. Other clusters include the Silesian cluster (around Bielsko-Biała, focusing on light civil aviation, UAVs, MRO, components, mostly SMEs), the Wielkopolska Aerospace Cluster (6 companies producing subassemblies in the Kalisz area, employing nearly 2,500 people), the Lower Silesian Air Cluster (south-western Poland, established 2014), and Klaster Lubelski.

Foreign Investment and Major Players: Prominent Polish aerospace manufacturers are often owned entirely or substantially by parent companies in the United States and Europe. Companies like Pratt & Whitney, Sikorsky (a Lockheed Martin company), Leonardo (AugustaWestland), Collins Aerospace, GE Aviation, MTU Aero Engines, Airbus, Boeing, Raytheon, Embraer, and Dassault Aviation have a significant presence and operations in Poland. The plant in Mielec, PZL Mielec, is the largest production plant for the Lockheed Martin group outside the US. Poland is also the third largest production centre for UTC Aerospace Systems in the world. In recent years, MRO centres have been established, such as EME Aero (a joint venture between Lufthansa Technik AG and MTU Aero Engines AG in Jasionka) and Xeos (GE Aviation).

R&D and Education: The sector has a strong connection between science and industry. Many companies have R&D centres in Poland, such as the Engineering Design Center of GE Aircraft Engines in Warsaw, employing over 1,800 engineers. Aviation clusters actively collaborate with academic and educational institutions to ensure a qualified workforce. Polish universities graduate a large number of engineers and experts yearly, with some universities offering new aviation-related programs. The sector consistently needs highly skilled workers. Research and development activities are supported by institutions and programs, including European Funds. The National Centre for Research and Development launched the INNOLOT support program for co-financing R&D in aviation. Polish entities participate in international engine development projects like PurePower PW1000G, GEnx, and LEAP. Selected universities and research centres are related to the aeronautical sector, including institutes like the Institute of Aviation (Łukasiewicz Research Network) and the Space Research Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Market Trends and Support: Market trends in civil aviation include the growing number of passengers on low-cost airlines and at regional airports. The sector is supported by institutions such as the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH), which provides support for investors. Regulatory institutions include the Civil Aviation Authority and the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency.

Polish Space Sector Overview

Poland also has a long tradition in the space sector, with roots tracing back over 500 years to astronomers like Nicolaus Copernicus. Polish scientists and engineers have contributed to space missions and programs, including the American Apollo program and the Soviet Intercosmos program, which included the orbital flight of the first Polish cosmonaut in 1978. Over the last half century, they have designed and constructed over eighty instruments used in various international space missions.

Size and Scale: The domestic space sector currently gathers over 300 companies and research institutions, employing nearly 12,000 people. Several dozen of these entities focus entirely on the space sector.

Key Activities: Polish entities are active in areas such as robotics and automation, mechatronics, on-board power supply systems, optical and communication systems for satellites, scientific sensors, soil penetrators, software testing systems, and subsystems of objects launched into orbit. Work is also underway on fully recoverable Polish sub-orbital missiles. Specific areas of competence include System Design & Verification, Space System Software, On-board Data Subsystems, RF Subsystems, Payloads and Technologies, Ground Station Systems and Networks, Mechanisms, Structures, Thermal control, Automation, Telepresence & Robotics, and more.

ESA Membership and Contribution: Poland became a member of the European Space Agency (ESA) in November 2012. This accession was a catalyst for the sector's development, allowing Polish entities to obtain significant contracts under ESA programs (EUR 140 million over 10 years prior to 2022). ESA membership provides access to ground and space infrastructure, cooperation opportunities, development of native technologies, a share in supply chains, human resource development, and educational programs.

In November 2022, Poland declared a basic contribution to ESA for 2023-2025 totaling 132 million EUR over three years, allocated to Basic Activities, Scientific Program, and 9 optional programs (Human and Robotic Exploration, Earth Observation, Telecommunications and Integrated Applications, Space Safety, Technology and Research Instruments, Space Transportation, Navigation, Commercialization, Industrial Policy and Procurement).

In July 2023, Poland announced a significant increase in its contribution by 295 million EUR, allocated to bilateral programs for observational satellites and technology development, participation in ESA programs, access to ISS research, and internships for Poles at ESA. Poland plans to focus on Earth Observation, Exploration, Satellite Construction, and Space Safety programs.

An agreement signed in October 2023 with ESA involves the construction of at least 4 observational satellites (3 optical, 1 radar-based) to be operational by 2027, with ESA assisting in design, construction, launch, and commissioning.
In November 2023, Polish company Thorium Space SA joined the ESA HummingSAT program for building small European telecommunication satellites.

Polish Space Agency (POLSA): POLSA was established in 2014. It is an executive agency of the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology. Its tasks include supporting the Polish space industry by connecting science, business, and administration; supporting regulations; helping entrepreneurs participate in international missions; initiating agreements; supporting state security and defense through satellite systems; and promoting the sector. POLSA reports to the POLSA Council and has regional branches in Warsaw and Rzeszow.

Polish Space Strategy: The strategy adopted in 2017 aims for the Polish space sector to obtain a 3% market share in Europe by 2030. It emphasizes the use of satellite data for security and defense and meeting domestic market demand. This is to be implemented through the National Space Program.

International Cooperation: Beyond ESA, Poland has signed space cooperation agreements with various countries including China, Mexico, Brazil, Ukraine, Italy, and France. In 2019, a joint declaration on space exploration was signed with NASA, along with an agreement on space situational awareness (SSA) services and data with the US Strategic Command. Poland signed the Artemis Accords agreement in 2021, opening prospects for participation in Lunar and Solar System exploration under US leadership. An agreement for a Polish astronaut mission to the International Space Station (ISS) was signed in August 2023 with ESA and Axiom Space

Budget: Poland's total expenditure on space (including ESA and EUMETSAT) was EUR 65.5 million in 2021.

R&D and Education: Research and development are key activities. The Space Research Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CBK PAN) is a key institution coordinating Polish activities in ESA projects. Other research units like the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center PAN (CAMK) and the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation are involved. Universities like Warsaw University of Technology and Rzeszow University of Technology are also related to the sector. Educational initiatives are supported by ESA and POLSA, including ESERO and ESA_Labs.

Space Sector Entities: The sector includes various companies and institutions with diverse specializations, such as 6ROADS (SSA, optical observatories), Absiskey Polska (innovation management, ESA broker), Asseco Poland (software, ground segment), Astronika (instruments, mechanisms), Blue Dot Solutions (satellite data products), Creotech Instruments (on-board systems, satellite components), EXATEL (satellite services, teleport), Jakusz SpaceTech (propellants), KP Labs (satellite construction, on-board systems), PIAP Space (robotics, mechanisms, space debris), Scanway (optical instruments), SENER Polska (mechanical engineering, mechanisms), Solar System Resources Corporation (space mining tech, lobbying for Artemis Accords), SpaceForest (RF systems, suborbital rockets), Spacive (thermal control systems, structures), SYDERAL Polska (electronics, software, quantum communication), Śląskie Centrum Naukowo-Technologicznego Przemysłu Lotniczego (composite structures), Thales Alenia Space Polska (satellite systems), Thorium Space (RF systems, GEO satellites), and TTcomm (satellite services).

UAV/Drone Sector

The sources mention Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) as an area of R&D and collaboration in the Polish aerospace sector. The Silesian Aviation Cluster includes companies engaged in the UAV sector. While promising, this sector faces challenges due to government policies limiting military orders from private companies. The U-SPACE market in Poland has significant value, estimated at PLN 3.26 billion for 2017-2026, with a potential economic impact of PLN 576 billion by 2026. As of Q1 2019, there were an estimated 100,000 drones in Polish airspace and 10,000 people with qualification certificates for commercial flights. The Polish Chamber of Unmanned Systems is listed as a regulatory institution.

Farnborough Aerospace Consortium (FAC) Visit to Poland

The Farnborough Aerospace Consortium (FAC), an established UK aerospace and defence trade association, has been strengthening ties with its partner organisation in Poland, the Aviation Valley Cluster . This relationship began with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Farnborough International Airshow in 2022.

FAC planned and executed a mission to Poland in October 2024 to further strengthen links with the Aviation Valley Cluster. The delegation included members of FAC companies such as Barnbrook Systems, FT Gearing Systems, Aero Gear, and CG Tech. Representatives from UK local councils (Rushmoor Borough Council and Hammersmith and Fulham Council) also participated.

During the visit, the delegation met with key figures in the Polish aerospace industry, including the mayor of Rzeszow, Konrad Fijolek, and senior management from companies like McBraida and MTU. The visit involved presentations, networking, and one-to-one meetings. A British representative from the Department of Business and Trade also joined from the embassy in Warsaw.

The trip was reported as "extremely good" and successful in terms of the business and leads generated. Participants expressed excitement for the future of UK and Poland relations in the sector. As a result of the success, lots of follow-ups have been organised, and FAC is planning a longer and larger visit for the following year, taking more members. The potential for FAC members and Aviation Valley Cluster members to do business together is considered "huge". The events of the preceding two years had enhanced the reasons for seeking mutual cooperation.

Great news for the UK aerospace sector! Boeing has recently opened a significant new facility in Farnborough, often called the 'birthplace of British aviation'. This centre, officially named the High-Lift Aerodynamics Collaboration Centre (HiLACC) , is set to become a hub for accelerating research into future aircraft concepts.

Our reason for doing this is to ensure that these industries have the opportunity to benefit from the unique skills which are acquired by people with lived disability experience and to enhance access to this large customer base.

Also attached is our white paper which was released recently. The paper highlights the need for future flight to consider accessibility now to avoid the issues currently faced by traditional air travel and highlights the unique employment opportunities that the sector has to offer disabled people.

The paper is a 1st edition and will be relaunched in December/January after a roundtable with industry partners set to take place on the 12th of November. The roundtable will discuss how to translate the paper’s theory into practical first steps for businesses. This discussion will be captured and turned into an additional few pages which will be added to the paper.

DEFENCE TECHNOLOGY EXPLOITATION PROGRAM

DTEP

The programme aims to inspire SMEs across the UK to win new business, develop industrial capabilities and provide new cutting-edge answers to defence problems at home and abroad. Following the NATEP model of mentoring, DASA Business Relationship Managers help companies develop their proposals and can also provide guidance on collaboration agreements and intellectual property protection.

Eligible proposals:

- are in Technology Readiness Levels 3 to 7 and align with MOD’s current and upcoming equipment capabilities and technology priorities.
- are a collaboration between a lower tier supplier and a higher tier partner. The sponsoring higher tier supplier (not just primes) will be expected to contribute their time, effort and resources to work with the SMEs to undertake these collaborative research and development projects
- have a compelling route to market – demonstrated by having a higher tier supply chain partner with a linkage to a new or existing MOD capability.

Funding

DTEP offers companies grant funding of up to 50% of a total project expenditure. There is no lower limit to project cost, however, it is expected that most project totals will be between £100K and £500K. The competition will have a maximum allowable project value of £1M (i.e. maximum grant award of £500K). Projects must plan to start within 6 months of Innovate UK grant award and run for a maximum duration of 18 months.

The Higher Tier Supplier must contribute a minimum of 15% of the grant value through their own resources, e.g. staff time, equipment, facilities, expertise etc. This in addition to (not part of) the total project value. This should be detailed within the full proposal.

EOIs invited for Regional Project Review Panels

ADS is looking for panel members to join regional Project Review Panels (PRPs) to provide industry feedback to the Defence Technology Exploitation Programme (DTEP) applicants.

Industry representatives from across the defence supply chain meet on a quarterly basis under the DTEP banner to discuss and review the latest technology ideas being proposed – prior to the projects’ submissions for funding. The feedback from these meetings adds enormous value to the project applications for the technology scope, understanding of the market and route to exploitation.

As DTEP continues to grow, additional reviewers on our panels are needed to broaden the panels’ expertise to match the increasing diversity of the technologies being proposed.

These regional Project Review Panels (PRPs) are a great and informal way for representatives to network with industry colleagues from across the UK, be at the forefront of emerging technologies and see what makes a successful proposal.

JET ZERO CLUSTER

Cleaner Aviation by 2050

This year will be when net zero for aviation, or ‘jet zero’, takes off according to a regional cluster along the M3 corridor. It is a collaborative effort between trade bodies, local government and academia to accelerate decarbonisation in the aerospace sector.

Farnborough Aerospace Consortium (FAC) and Enterprise M3 LEP are among the organisations involved in the pioneering project.

The ambition is to achieve net zero aviation by 2050 and further develop technology to make the wider industry cleaner.

Alan Fisher, chief executive officer of FAC, said: “The move to a greener future is happening and we want to be at the forefront. Our country’s aerospace sector is centred in the south and south-east and we must make efforts to decarbonise.

FAC represents many companies in the aerospace and aviation sectors, but also many in their supply chains.

The rush to ‘jet zero’ includes many different types of business, from those making the planes and infrastructure to those making small components. Fuel is one area that is being studied closely in an attempt to reduce the emissions it produces. The weight of components and the processes and chemicals being used are all under scrutiny.

Next year will be hugely important in the development of this new tech. Having emerged from the pandemic lock downs, industry is now fully focused.

The cluster involves different types of organisation who have embarked on a collaborative approach which will be the best way forward. Our aim is to help the industry prosper by going where governments, and the public, want it to go.

This year Gulfstream completed the world’s first trans-Atlantic flight using sustainable aviation fuel. So we know it can be done.”

Involved in the cluster are 25 organisations including trade bodies, local authorities, universities and colleges.

An exciting new programme funded by the Ministry of Defence to provide business improvement support to UK based Small and Medium enterprises and Mid-tier suppliers in the defence sector supply chain.

Background to Programme

In the Defence and Security Industrial Strategy and the Defence Command Paper Refresh, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) committed to support the development of a more productive and competitive UK defence sector. As a result, the MOD has launched the Defence Supplier Capability Development Programme to provide business improvement support for SMEs and mid-tier suppliers in the defence sector supply chain.

The programme will offer UK based suppliers growing in the sector up to £200,000 worth of customised support over the course of a year, tailored to their specific developmental requirements. This support will be funded by the MOD, with companies being required to demonstrate matched resource commitment through the time they spend on improvement activities.

The support will be based on an initial diagnostic assessment conducted to evaluate each organisation’s capabilities and needs, ensuring that every business receives the appropriate assistance to address their unique requirements. This will lead on to a tailored package of support delivered by a range of experts in each critical area that participants need to develop.

The programme aims to:

Support the development of a more productive and competitive UK defence sector by providing improvement support to UK based defence suppliers.
Improve productivity and competitiveness of UK defence supply chains
Increase domestic resilience and improve companies’ ability to win export opportunities.

Aldershot’s Community Grub Hub and the Greater Rushmoor Nepali Community have benefited from Farnborough Aerospace Consortium’s move to new offices. With lots off office and catering equipment surplus to requirements following their move to Farnborough Council offices, FAC donated it all to the two good causes. The Grub Hub received square tables, shredder, coat rack, countertop fridge, lots of food and a large amount of catering items. The Nepalis received a shredder, desk screens, water cups and many other office items. And FAC – with networking in its DNA – inadvertently led to the two groups meeting and forming a close relationship.

Grub Hub spokesman Steve Baxendale said: “The grub hub opened three years ago as a food bank. We’re open every Tuesday and get about 260 visitors, about half of whom have families and so we help around 500 people each week. We are also a community hub and have a seating area where people can keep warm in winter and have a hot drink. We provide free wi-fi, computers and phone charging stations to help people with other aspects of their life. There is also a room where are visitors can go to receive advice and health care.

“We invite representatives from organisations including Citizens Advice, mental health charities and health care professionals so they can assist those who pop in. When we went to pick the items donated by FAC we met the Greater Rushmoor Nepali Community group. Before this meeting we only had one Nepali visit us, and now we have around 100. Many don’t speak English or even read in their own language, so younger members of the community come along to assist with the language barriers. We are situated close to the railway station which is where most of the Nepalis live. We are very grateful to FAC for the donations, and we have lots of other support from businesses – but we could always do with more.”

Kim Yeomans from FAC said: “As an organisation we have been working in these communities for many decades and understand the great work these good causes do. When we moved to the council offices, we became aware that many of our possessions were no longer needed, or we didn’t have the storage for them. So, we asked the Community Grub Hub and the Greater Rushmoor Nepali Community if they would like what we had.”

FAC reaction to Heathrow announcement

Farnborough Aerospace Consortium (FAC) has given a cautious welcome to the Chancellor’s announcement to permit a third runway at Heathrow Airport.

The trade association, based at the centre of the county’s most important aerospace and aviation region, represents hundreds of businesses in the industry.

Its CEO Alan Fisher, a sector veteran, said that a third runway could help boost the economy and provide much needed optimism for his members. He said that growth provided by the airport expansion could lead to further investment in Sustainable Aviation Fuels, hydrogen power and cleaner aircraft.

And he welcomed news of a £63m investment for the Advanced Fuels Fund.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves today said that the decision about whether to build a new runway at the country’s only hub airport ‘cannot be ducked any longer’. She argued that the runway could create 100,000 jobs and that the CBI, Federation of Small Businesses, Chambers of Commerce and the Unite and GMB unions said the runway was ‘badly needed’. She said: “I have always been clear that a third runway at Heathrow would unlock further growth, boost investment, increase exports and make the UK more connected.”

She said that proposals would be invited by the summer and an assessment would be made through the Airport National Policy Statement. The Chancellor insisted that the project would be value for money and it would be delivered ‘in line with our legal, environmental and climate objectives.’ She added: “Heathrow are clear that their proposal for expansion will meet strict rules on noise, air quality and carbon emissions.”

Alan Fisher said: “The Chancellor is correct when she said we haven’t had a new runway built for 80 years.

“With a third runway Heathrow would have increased capacity and with upgrades to other airports it does send a positive message to the aerospace and aviation industries. The sector has been at the forefront of innovation in making flight cleaner and greener, and has taken onboard the drive towards net-zero flight.

“Every generation of aircraft and every new fuel is far better for the environment than the previous one, so boosting the aerospace and aviation sectors will help power research and development into more new technologies. The announcement of investment in the Advanced Fuels Fund is welcome as we have members directly involved in creating new fuels. We all know that the Heathrow expansion debate has been raging for decades, with passionate advocates on both sides of the argument. So we well have to wait and see what emerges from the proposals for the expansion when they are put forward, and we will be closely watching updates through the Airport National Policy Statement.

“The UK is a world leader in aerospace – and always has been – and to keep it that way we need a government to support the sector in every way it can. So announcements of investment in our airports is to be welcomed, but as always the devil will be in the details. The Chancellor’s speech does now provide our members with some certainty and that is always welcome. London is the economic driver of the country so when London prospers it does have a positive impact in other regions.”

Happy International Women's Day

On Friday Kim Yeomans had the honor of representing Farnborough Aerospace Consortium at the Women in Aviation & Aerospace Charter Steering Board Meeting where they agreed actions to support their signatories going forward at the amazing Lancaster House in London followed by the WIAAC annual International Women's Day event #iwd

The International Women's Day event highlighted the importance of investing in women speakers were Sir Stephen Hillier Chair of the CAA and the Charter's Patron, Maria Laine, President of Boeing in the UK, Ireland & Nordic Region, Natalie Bush, Director of TUI Airways, Maria Tarabanovska DFT Aviation Ambassador/Flight Crowd Founder.

It was a great afternoon meeting some awe inspiring women and also old and new faces who give their time and support to the Charter which is celebrating our 5th year !

The EACP warmly welcomes Farnborough Aerospace Consortium (FAC) into the community.

The trade association with national and international members is the longest established aerospace and defence trade body in the UK, providing support to some 300 companies located in southern England.

EACP Coordinator Niklas Schilling commented: “We are very happy to see Farnborough Aerospace Consortium return to EACP as a member. Growing EACP’s presence in Great Britain is a testament to the strong link between European and British aerospace companies despite Brexit. We believe that the valuable input provided by FAC to EACP will make a noticeable difference and continue to prove the excellence of the EACP network for its clusters and members.”

Alan Fisher, chief executive officer of FAC, said: "Joining EACP will bring many opportunities for our members and the aerospace industry across the south and south-east of Britain. It represents nearly 50 clusters from 18 countries that create a strong voice which helps businesses compete in the global market. Collaboration on joint projects is one area from which our members will benefit. We will also look forward to joining working groups to give our input about what can be done for our members and the sector as a whole. For several years, our conferences have noted the change to a collaborative approach in aerospace. Whether it be cleaner fuels or the drive to net-zero, many areas are common to all businesses. We represent companies in the aerospace, aviation and defence sectors and their supply chains and want to keep Britain as a world leader in these industries. Being part of EACP will help us achieve this.”

The EACP is looking forward to work together with FAC.
